“Fidel Castro’s a Ratings Grabber!” - Michael Moore
February 21, 2008
Quirky and outspoken director Michael Moore recently babbled that Fidel Castro would be a “ratings grabber” at Sunday night’s Oscars.
The auteur’s Academy-nominated documentary on the health-care industry wrapped up with an excursion to Cuba, where he try to find care for a assemblage of responders to the September 11, 2001, rebel attacks who have experienced health troubles.
They are welcomed with warmly at a Havana hospital and provided what looks to be first-rate care that they could not get in the United States.
Fidel Castro, already 81 years old and in reduced vigor, recently declared his retirement as president of Cuba, concluding a half-century of domineering rule.
“I got some great news today because I was trying to figure out how I was going to get Castro into the Oscars and for me he resigns today so he can come to LA and go as my guest and perhaps give the acceptance speech,” Moore said.
“As long as he keeps it under five hours … I’m telling you, that’s got to be a ratings grabber. “
“Can you imagine him showing up?â€
“If I could talk to (Oscar producer) Gil Cates and maybe get Castro in a dance number at the beginning of the show?â€
“Great.”
