Reports claim that Nelson Mandela really, really, really wants the Spice Girls to present at his 90th birthday.
Coordinators for the humanitarian’s birthday party want Posh, Baby, Scary, Sporty, Ginger to be the main act of the June event, the Daily Mirror suggested.
Mandela is reported to be excited to see the girl group perform, particularly because they said no to a previous request to perform at his 89th birthday because of work obligations and Emma Bunton’s pregnancy.
“Nelson is desperate for them to perform one last time — and he’s confident it will happen,” an insider said.
The girl group recently cut short their world tour this month, alluding to family and personal duties.
A hostile response from fans followed, with internet message boards and websites quickly filled with not so positive words against the girls. Branded them liars and just making excuses.
The group will join a caravan of music artists if they agree to the offer to perform at Mandela’s birthday party.
Queen already signed up, and buzz has it that Robbie Williams will be the band’s singer, clad as Freddie Mercury.
U2′s Bono has acknowledged the request and is apparently trying to persuade former Eurythmics star Annie Lennox and the Rolling Stones into joining him.
Rihanna and Jay-Z are also anticipated to perform.
The bash is scheduled to take place at London’s Hyde Park.
