Let the Fight for The Pop Diva Crown Begin

There is a competing site on the Internet that sells MP3s and what do you know, Madonna’s “4 Minutes” and it’s indicated there that “Customer’s who bought this song bought the Album” and it was pointing out to Janet Jackson’s album Discipline and in Janet Jackson’s section it also says “Customer’s who bought this song bought this item”, make a wild guess to what song it was pointing at, it was of Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body”, and Mariah was at the top of the list.

Huge pop divas like Janet, Madonna and Mariah that it actually is understandable why their fan base would over lap each other thought each artist offer a different kind of style of groove in their songs. It makes it all the more interesting to see that all of theses three artists are coming back with a different kind of touch to revamp and spice up their music careers.

Janet debuted her album on the No.1 spot with the following February 26 release. Madonna’s Hard Candy will be hitting the record bars on April 29 and Mariah’s E=MC2 is coming out on April 15.

There’s another MTV Celebrity Deathmatch fixated with the three top divas that are Mariah, Janet and Madonna who all our coming out with a new album. It would be great to see those claymations of their character make familiar unique traits of each while they pulling each other’s throat. One can’t just wait till the real thing begin let’s make a new way to know who is in favor of the other. Which is which? Who brings home the Diva crown?

There are 4 aspects that I will be looking at to judge who gets the crown. First would be the singing ability, second would be the dancing ability, third would be the lifetime achievement. With this let the fight for the Diva Crown begin.

Best Singer

Madonna is an Icon, and she started with songs like “Like A Virgin, Papa Don’t Preach” and so on. At first she had a squeaky voice that when you look back it makes you stop and wonder why you ever liked her songs then that sometimes you’d find it annoying. Modonna wasn’t so proud of her singing back then too. She also had to take classes for voice singing when she was doing her movie “Evita” to improve the quality of her voice. You should hand it out to her that after sometime her voice had improved a lot.

Janet on the other hand had good grooves that go with her songs and well thought melodies that complements dancing and sensual moods altogether. I like Janet personally but sometimes her voice quality just remind me of her brother Michael Jackson. It’s cute the way she carries her voice, but singing is not really her thing.

Of course with Mariah although sometimes her hand gestures are awkward when she sings raising her hand to an ultimate high when she tries to reach the high notes and breaking her face in the process, but the outcome o her singing is oh so well, makes you want to sing it as she sings it too.

So the winner for this round would be Mariah herself and it is quite obvious.

Best Dancer

Mariah may have won the best singing category, but it is also quite obvious that she can’t compete when it comes to dancing. The only time I remember her danced well were in videos that I can count with fingers in just one hand. Yes she’s not a dancer, but I guess you can never have it all.

Now in this we are in a bit of a pickle. Madonna pursued her dreams in the form of dancing when she went to New York and was actually one of the top students in her batch that gave her dancing scholarship. Do you know that she does classical dancing?

That’s where she gets her a bit weird but interesting moves in dance moves. However it is it is her edge.

Janet Jackson is another Icon when it comes to dancing and makes it even all the more danceable when the choreograph of dances well suit the song itself. You can never easily forget her songs and dance formation that she has been idolized by even the current young music artists of today. Not to mention the footwork.

If I were to base it on moves that the crowd can handle on the dance floor themselves because it soothes the dance song. Then I have to give it to Janet, she had been creative with her moves at the same time looking oh so sexy and cool. And like professional dancers would say, it’s all about the footwork and Janet has “it”. However, Janet was way back better when she was younger and I hope that she can get by working out on her dance moves the way she did before in her Different Strokes that was around 24 years ago.

Best Actress

Janet Jackson had a lot of credits when it comes to this area. She had made TV appearances in TV series like Good Times, Fame and Different Strokes. She had been in movies like Poetic Justice, Why Did I get Married and the list goes on. Given so many changes in the movie scene, Janet never really pulled it off in her acting skills. There was no impact and she wasn’t popularly known for it.

Mariah always had a dream of being an Actress that led to desperate measures of getting connections to get her into one, but the thing is it always flopped. Then had a movie entitled “Glitter” that ended up in not glittering so much and when she played a teenager in a movie entitled “G” that came to a tumbling flop as well.

Madonna however managed to raise the bar higher in this area that I should hand it out to her. She didn’t make drastic changes when she tried to act in movies, first she played a role that much was just like herself. Then she got another acting gig in the movie “A League of Their Own” that played a couple of girls who had to take over the Baseball League while the men are out in war and Madonna being one of the actors there didn’t even have the lead role but she did play a good character that had a remarkable attitude just like herself. It was small but good. However the transition from singing to acting made a huge leap when she got the part in “Evita” a musical movie. This was around the time she had to have voice lessons to improve the quality of her voice and I could say that it paid off. Madonna I think claimed the spot I this round.

Best Lifetime Achievement Award

Mariah have a good singing career and her voice was ranked as the most highest voice that it can break glass. She has been the Guinness Book of Records. She has been on top of the game for quite sometime and still is striving she withstood the trials even through some of her falls, however that doesn’t count as the main reason to give her a lifetime achievement award.

Janet had a tribute concert about her historic hits and the stage was crawling with stars of the current music scene. She had start like Justin Timberlake sing one of her songs, Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child and so on. The was an unforgettable setting shown live in MTV. It was a time when Janet just had to sit back and watch current popular young artists worship her and follow her steps.

Madonna had recently been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while at the same time her husband was ranked no.1 in GQ magazine on the list of Top Whipped Men On The Planet. I guess Madonna has a very strong personality that it withstood and overlapped Guy Richie, but I don’t really think that Guy minds if the other fellas think of him what way or worse off call him Mr. Madonna.

Everybody knows Madonna does not have a great voice talent but she evolved in a way that made her like a phenomenon in the pop music industry. With her little singing talent she managed to be the one of the most identified voices in the music industry today. Madonna has sold more than 275 million albums on a global scale making the no.1 top selling female artist of all time.

Although Madonna had a share of sex scandals and public controversies and to mention one would be Courtney Love’s remarkable throw of sandals over Madonna’s head in an MTV awards night dated way back when. She also had a slight feud with Mariah herself, with Mariah criticizing Madonna’s age saying that “Madonna was popular when I was in elementary”. Not to mention the public display of her breast but my God she became one of the most unforgettable characters in the celebrity list. Even the Pope had her on special mention however not favoring her.

She had been linked from one guy to another, like licking on different flavors from time to time from Sean Penn to the young and delicious Vanilla Ice. Going black with Dennis Rodman to Warren Beatty and then her dance instructor who we all know got her pregnant but amazingly she was still able to top it all by speaking against war and was able to make children’s books all through inspiration I guess when she gave birth to her first child Lourdes.

Isn’t it quite relevant who won the crown? It’s the self proclaimed pop queen herself, Madonna Louis Ciccone. She is the chameleon wild child that graced that came barging in the music industry for decades now even if she stared her not as young as Britney Spears did, she withstood the test of time evolving herself to the top of the charts and being the most sought after performances in all awards night. Every artist just wants to see what new stunt she had to offer to spice up the event. She maybe a bad ass in her younger years but time made her sculpted in to fame as an ICON of all times that always out there to set the trend while the others just try to be as versatile as she is

So let me hand the Crown to the real Pop Diva of all times… Madonna.
