McDreamy: New Scent for Avon
Is it tacky to call it McDreamy?
Patrick Dempsey recently inked a multiyear contract to be Avon Product’s latest image model for a new men’s fragrance.
Avon’s working to have the signature scent ready before its November unveiling, with a worldwide launch to follow in 2009.
This is Dempsey’s first adventure into the fragrance department endorsement. Women’s Wear Daily is already claiming that Dempsey’s arrangement could be worth a whopping $5 million for three years.
Jillian Dempsey, the actor’s makeup-artist better half, has also served as Avon’s international creative color director since 2006.
“We are thrilled to partner with Patrick Dempsey—an incredibly accomplished actor who has achieved such broad appeal because of his genuine authenticity, charisma and style,” said Avon Products Chairman and CEO Andrea Jung.
“We’re extremely impressed with both his on and off screen accomplishments, and have a shared commitment to giving back to communities in ways both big and small.”
Seems like it might be Avon’s humanitarian pledge that attracted Dempsey’s involvement to the project.
The Grey’s Anatomy star was in Maine to announce the opening of the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing earlier this month, formed in honor of the actor’s mum, Amanda, who braved ovarian-cancer.
“This is an extremely exciting opportunity for me to work with Avon—a brand I have long respected as a global powerhouse with a lot of heart and soul,” Dempsey said.
“The brand reaches every corner of the globe with more than just high quality products—it creates economic empowerment for women through its earning opportunity, and has an excellent reputation for corporate philanthropy through their Avon Foundation.”
Just last year, Reese Witherspoon signed up as honorary chair of the Avon Foundation, she was the company’s first-ever global ambassador. Its aim is to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research, emergency relief and domestic violence causes.
