Coldplay’s Doing Viva La Vida!

Reports indicates that Ricky Martin will replace Chris Martin as a frontman for Coldplay.

Naah… Of course not.

But the misunderstanding is due to the announcement of the band’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, titled Viva la Vida. targeting a June 17 release.

The up-to-the-minute endeavor, initially called Death and All His Friends, will be released through Capitol Records. Produced by Brian Eno, the album comprises of 10 tracks.

Eno is the previous keyboardist forRoxy Music and legendary Grammy-winning producer who has worked following the boards for U2, Talking Heads, Devo and Paul Simon. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends is his foremost alliance with Coldplay.

As Coldplay aficionado might construe by the title, the latest album was influenced by Latin melody, particularly with the addition of Spanish-style guitar rhythm. Viva la Vida is also an allusion to the 1954 work of art of the same name by Mexican art icon Frida Kahlo.

Viva la Vida is Coldplay’s follow-up to X&Y released in 2005, which generated around 10 million copies banking on such hits as “The Speed of Sound,” “Talk” and “Fix You.

Now, EMI’s parent company Capitol is relying on the new album to boost the company’s financial luck for 2009. Since a substantial reorganization instigated by new board, the British firm has seen copious stock crash and defections by some of its major groups, counting Coldplay’s idols, Radiohead.

As soon as Coldplay declared a return to the studio in 2007, Martin said that the forthcoming album would witness the group’s breakthrough in a new artistic direction, therefore inviting Eno to supply his studio genius, and would also incorporate one song that he describes as “genius,” a tune “everybody has to hear.”
