Winehouse Gets Visa But Still Won’t Attend Grammys

Winehouse at Elle Style Awards

After receiving news that her US Visa application was rejected, Amy Winehouse made an appeal to the American Embassy and London and it paid off.

Winehouse’s publicity firm, the Outside Organization released the following statement confirming the Embassy’s reversal of its initial decision.

“Following further discussions involving the U.S. Embassy in London and officials in the United States, Amy Winehouse has been granted a visa to enter the United States of America.”

However, the decision came too late for her to make the trip according to her representatives.

“Unfortunately, due to the logistics involved and timing complications, Amy will not be travelling to the U.S. to perform at the Grammys in person,” her publicists added.

“Amy would like to thank all of those people, in particular the staff involved at the U.S. Embassy in London, who have all worked so hard to expedite her application. She is looking forward to being a part of the 50th Annual Grammy Awards with her Sunday night performance and to going back to the U.S. soon.”

After initially being declined, the Rehab singer was set to perform at the Grammy Awards via satellite. Her publicists confirmed that they will go ahead with their contingency plan allowing Winehouse to perform live via satellite from a studio in London, where she would also be available to accept any awards she may win during Sunday’s ceremony. Winehouse and her highly succesful “Back to Black” album are nominated for six categories in the Grammys.
