Bullock and Husband Survives a Totaled SUV

April 20, 2008

Actress Sandra Bullock and her husband Jesse James (yes that is his real name), were hit head on by a drunk driver last night in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

The couple was being driven home from film shooting in a rented black sports utility vehicle by Mark Hussey, 55, of Londonderry, when a gray Subaru station wagon suddenly jumped lanes on East Main Street and smashed head on into the front end of the black sports car. The accident happened at around 9:50 p.m. on Friday.

Thankfully, no one from both parties was injured from the accidental collision. According to reports, driver Mark Hussey told the police he was traveling at only 15 to 20 miles per hour on the coastal community road. Nonetheless, both cars were reportedly totaled.

“They were shaken up, needless to say,” said Gloucester Police Lt. Gerry Cook.

“But they were fine – he was hugging her. Jess and Sandra were hugging. They said they were fine, they didn’t need medical attention. There were quite a few people snapping pictures of them.”

According to the police lieutenant, the couple simply walked away from the accident unscathed. They didn’t even wait to be examined by medical officers.

The actress was even more concerned of the other vehicle’s passengers.

“Mrs. Bullock was very personable and was concerned for the operator of the other car. I think she thought she might have been injured,” said police Officer Kevin Mackey, who was one of the first officers to respond to the accident.

The driver of the Subaru was identified as Lucille P. Gatchell, a 64 year old woman also from Glouceste, Massachusetts. Shortly after the accident, she was given a field sobriety test by officers responding to the scene. According to reports, the old lady blew a .20 on the breathalyzer, which is two and a half times over the legal limit in the state.

The old lady “had a strong odor of alcohol and was unsteady on her feet,” said Officer Mackey.

Afterwards, Gatchell was arrested and was taken straight to the police station where the old lady was booked on driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to stay in marked lanes. She was released on her own recognizance and will be arraigned on the charges this coming Tuesday.

According to the arresting officer, the old lady didn’t even have an idea who she hit until he told her as they drove to the police station. “And then she started laughing, she was really giddy,” the police officer added.

“It’s unfortunate,” Lieutenant Gerry Cook said in an interview. “But it shows you that no one is immune from drunk drivers, no matter how famous you are.”

Duh.

Who is immune from accident? Um.. Let me see.. no one!?!

Sandra Bullock was in the area filming a new romantic comedy movie entitled “The Proposal.”
